SUMMARY:Make a Sandwich. Feed a Neighbor.
DESCRIPTION:SANDWICHES FOR EAST VALLEY MEN’S CENTER\nSandwich Week is here again! This is a time where we spend a week of mornings making sandwiches and assembling bag lunches for men who are currently residing at the East Valley Men’s Center in Mesa\, Arizona. Some 75 men live there at a time and are transitioning out of homelessness. \nWe gather in the Saint Barnabas kitchen for only about an hour and put together lunches that one of us then delivers to the center. You can serve by making sandwiches\, bagging up veggies\, chips\, or cookies\, putting each bag together\, and more. It’s a fast\, easy way to make a huge difference in the lives of men who are working hard to get out of a difficult situation. \nBeginning Sunday\, August 1\, we will again be making lunches for the East Valley Men’s Center. Stations will be set up (socially distanced) in Hutton Hall. Please bring your mask (if you forget\, one will be provided). We need volunteers from Sunday\, August 1 through Saturday\, August 7. Please email Deacon Susie Parker if you would like to help out! \nLocation: Saint Barnabas

SUMMARY:Advent Series Online
DESCRIPTION:Registration is now closed.\nSundays at 9:00am via Zoom | November 29 – December 20 \nThis Advent\, let’s approach the story of Christmas with wonder! Do Not Be Afraid invites Saint Barnabas friends of all ages to join in a devotional study perfect for the Advent season. During this creative and reflective time we will engage our sacred story while also making deeper connections with each other and with God. \n \nWe will engage in the program via weekly Zoom sessions hosted by our Rector\, Jim Clark\, and Sarah Petersen\, Children’s Ministry Director.  Sessions will be the four Sundays of Advent\, Nov. 29 – Dec. 20 at 9am\, during which kids\, families\, and adults will interact with reflection\, discussions\, and creative activities that all will enjoy. Inter-generational opening sessions will be followed by small group breakout sessions divided by type: kids\, families\, and adults. \nFrom Illustrated Ministry\, creators of the curriculum: \nThe inspiration for our theme comes from the angels’ message in the first two chapters of the Gospel of Luke: “Do not be afraid!” This phrase is an instruction God gave to God’s people throughout their history\, and it’s a message God continues to give to us today. This Advent\, we invite you to explore what it looks like to hold hope when life feels really uncertain\, to bring peace in the face of fear\, to practice joy when everything seems burdensome\, and to choose love\, when sometimes\, it’s just really hard. You’ll be invited to wonder more deeply about this classic story\, to imagine some of the details that aren’t filled in for us\, and to make connections to your own context this season. \nPlease Contact Sarah Petersen for questions and zoom login information. \nLocation: On Zoom

SUMMARY:Pandemic Holidays: Living with Loss in Uncertain Times
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, October 29 at 4pm | on Zoom \nSome questions to ponder: How do we make plans when it is impossible to make plans? How do we honor family and religious traditions if we cannot travel or need to social distance? What traditions and practices are we willing to suspend\, just for this holiday season\, making space for new traditions? Can we embrace something new to make this holiday season as meaningful as possible? \nJoin Joyce Vidal-Thornburg\, a spiritual director and certified grief counselor\, for an interactive presentation on Thursday\, October 29 at 4 pm on Zoom. A link to join will be included in our weekly email. Not subscribed? Click here. \nLocation: on Zoom

SUMMARY:Respect the Dignity of All: Kids Engaging in Racial Equity
DESCRIPTION:Fall Family Formation Program \nSundays at 8:30am via Zoom | September 13-November 22 \nRegistration Required \nBeginning Sunday\, September 13\, our Episcopal Diocese of Arizona will offer a weekly formation program focusing on storytelling and themes of racial equality\, specifically designed for elementary and middle-school-aged children (grades K-7) and their caregivers. This is a pivotal time for all of us—including\, and perhaps especially\, children— to listen to the stories of people of color and engage in a discussion of what it means to “respect the dignity of every human being” (a quote from the Book of Common Prayer\, p. 305). We will engage in the program via a weekly Zoom session hosted by Ms. Sarah and our Sunday School teachers on Sundays at 8:30am\, during which kids (and their parents\, if so desired) will interact with games\, discussions\, and the occasional craft. The video lesson will be adapted from the Diocesan program. \nPlease Contact Sarah Petersen for questions and zoom login information. \nLocation: On Zoom
