Starting at age 3\, we offer quality music classes and performance opportunities that allow children to learn the fundamentals of musicianship. Our approach is gently faith-based and we welcome your children to join this enriching program. All Wednesday night classes begin with playground time from 5-5:25pm\, with classes from 5:30-6:30pm. \n \n \nMusic Makers (Ages 3-5) \nChildren’s Center Music Room \nDesigned for children to have fun while developing a love for music\, Music Makers is for preschool children. We use developmentally appropriate games and musical activities while learning engaging songs about life and faith. Although not a performance group\, we do encourage our students to try singing in front of a group of friends and family for Children’s Chapel one Sunday per semester. \n \nChildren’s Choirs (Grades K-8) \nChildren’s Choirs at Saint Barnabas perform regularly throughout the school year—usually once a month on Sundays. Both choirs engage in elements of solfege\, harmony singing\, note reading\, and sight singing. All members are assigned a red robe for singing in church. \nAndante (Grades K-2) \nMusic Center \nAndante Choir provides an excellent introduction to choral singing and performance. Students engage in warm-ups and music education weekly while preparing to sing in Sunday church services and other events. \nAllegro (Grades 3-8) \nSanctuary Choir Loft \nSinging increasingly challenging music\, Allegro Choir gives upper elementary students an opportunity to serve as leaders in the music program. \nREGISTER \n\nMeditative Prayer Service and Adult Appetizers\nThis is an opportunity for parents\, caregivers\, and any other adults who feel called to join us to get together mid-week for renewal and community engagement. It is also a chance for your children to join in the Wednesday program while you pray and visit with other adults. \n5:15-5:30: The chapel will be open for “decompression” from the day and for meditation.  We’d ask that socializing happen outdoors or after worship. \n 5:30: A quiet prayer service with time for reflection. Rev. Jennifer and Rev. Robert will pull material for reflection from a number of different sources. \n6:00: Social time in The Other Cup with each other. We will not curate the conversation. It’s simply going to be a time to be together. \n6:30: We’ll join the children in Hutton Hall for a kid-friendly dinner. \nWe are not designing anything that would require you to be at worship or at the social hour every week. Our goal is that this time together will be restorative and encouraging.   \nInfants and toddlers will be cared for by our regular Saint Barnabas nursery staff in the Children’s Center Purple Room. We encourage all children ages 3+ to try out the music program. But if music does not appeal to your child\, we have a Meditation and Movement class at the same time. \n\nMeditation and Movement \nAfter playground time wraps up\, kids ages 5+ are invited to participate in our program that centers on three different elements: \nMeditation – Through various forms of meditation and contemplation\, we invite your young people to think deeply about God and life including guided meditations\, labyrinths\, breath work\, and more.\n\nMovement – Other forms of meditation include movement and connection with the body. Yoga and tai chi are examples of this. A practice of mindful eating can increase our sense of the divine indwelling throughout our day. It can also help us access the inner wisdom of our bodies that we frequently do not hear or heed. \nThese sessions are designed for you to experience mindful eating. We will meet on Zoom at 6 p.m.\, starting with an embodied mindfulness meditation that includes prayer. Then\, we will savor an individually prepared supper and briefly discuss what we noticed during this tasting. Each day includes three 1-hour periods of Centering Prayer with walking meditation and evening compline. Silence is honored throughout each day\, including mealtime\, giving participants a sacred place to attend to the longings of their hearts and welcome God’s healing presence. A time for joy and renewal\, the retreat includes ample time to walk the labyrinth\, explore the beauty of the desert\, read\, journal\, or simply rest. The opportunity to share one’s thoughts will be a joyful part of our closing ceremonies on Sunday. \nThree healthy and delectable meals a day are offered\, and the dining room is always open for coffee/tea\, water bottle refills\, and fresh fruit. Come join us Sunday March 10 and plan to meet both George Martin and Bruce McNab in The Other Cup following the 10:15 service.  George will be discussing his book “Paul Found in His Letters” and  Bruce will be discussing his books “Believing is Seeing” A Guide for Responding to John’s Gospel and “Finding the Way” Restarting your Journey with Jesus. These are wonderful books and it will be so special to hear about them and how they came to be from their authors. Their books will be available and the authors will look forward to any questions you might have for them\, so plan on spending a delightful afternoon from 11:30-12:30. Refreshments will be served. \n\n \nGeorge Martin is an independent Pauline scholar and (more famously) father to Kate Fimbres\, our Minister for Youth and Parish Life. The book\, published in 2022 by Claremont Press\, is the story of Paul in the history of the first century based on the seven letters all scholars agree he wrote. Martin explains why the accounts in the Book of Acts and in the Pastoral Epistles represent the “remembered Paul” coming decades after his letters. The letters reveal a different Paul in his own voice. With its unique focus on these seven letters this isn’t a biography of Paul\, but it offers some amazing things about Paul in the context of Imperial Rome and pervasive slavery. This picture of Paul places women at his side as co-workers with him\, and as active participants in leadership and worship. Paul’s travels that took him to Arabia and his desire to take the Gospel to Spain bring the history\, economic\, and social realities of the first century to the light of day. \n  \n_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ \n \nBruce McNab became an Episcopal priest in 1972. Before retiring from full-time parish ministry in 2011\, he served as rector of five different parishes as well as being a guest preacher\, teacher\, workshop speaker\, and retreat leader for congregations\, dioceses\, and organizations in the USA and overseas. A graduate of Austin College\, Princeton University\, and the General Theological Seminary\, Bruce McNab now lives with his wife\, Joan\, at the foot of the Bridger Mountains in Bozeman\, MT\, in the summer and in Scottsdale\, AZ\, in winter months.
