Choir: Do you love to sing? This is your opportunity to sing in a group that will focus on the best ways to sing together with expression, phrasing, diction, and more. If you like to sing along with the radio, in the shower, or all through the day, then this ensemble is for you.

Drama: Campers will work on the fundamentals of theatrical performing (including the art of projection, “cheating out,” and making clear and appropriate facial expressions) while rehearsing for—then performing—an original play on the last day of camp.

Set Design: Be part of creating stage scenery and props. This class will produce the backdrop for the final performance of camp. Think big!

Sprouts Ensembles (assigned)

Chimes: If you can count to 4, you can play a choir chime! You will learn to read your two notes and when to ring the chime with new friends. Come learn to play this unique musical instrument that looks like a big tuning fork with a clapper. (Sprouts: grades K-1)

Dance: Use your body to express yourself through the music of our final performance. Work with a group of great dancers with various styles of dance woven together. (Sprouts: grades K-1)

Choir: This is your opportunity to sing in a group that will focus on the best ways to sing together with expression, phrasing, diction, and more. (Creators and Sprouts)

Workshop 1

Christmas Ornaments: Christmas in June? Why not?! We’ll be making 4 very decorative ornaments for your tree (including Olaf and the Grinch!) using a variety of materials such as gourds, clear glass ornaments, twigs, and paper towel rolls. There will also be time to create simple ornaments or gift tags using a variety of crafty and recycled items and your own imagination!

Cooking Class: Campers will learn to make something new each day, like homemade meatballs and mini pizzas. We will learn knife safety and other helpful things that will assist you when you are cooking at home.

Super Sign Making: Learn to make great posters and signs. Figure out creative and effective ways to write your message so that people can read it and understand it.

Trash to Treasure Art: Campers will turn colorful junk mail into fun canvas art using tools and theories about color. Each student will take home their own colorful canvas creation. We will find the beauty in what people view as garbage.

Workshop 2

Animal Drawing: Draw animals—lots of animals. Dinosaurs, ducks, dragonflies, dogs—you name it and we will draw it.

Garbage Drum Circle: Campers will learn how to create rhythms and beats using ordinary, everyday objects.

Nature Photography: We will photograph people, birds, butterflies, flowers, trees, water, fire—whatever we can find. We will also learn to crop our photos (cut out the less important parts) to focus on the part you like the best. Your creations will be combined in a slide show presented on the last day for the whole camp and parents to enjoy. Bring your own digital camera or borrow one of ours for the week.

Origami: Did you know the Japanese first used origami to teach young ladies to fold their kimonos? Now it’s a wonderful art form—folding a variety of objects out of a square of paper, no cutting, no glue! Join us as we start with easy projects like a pinwheel, a candy dish, then to a crane, a Christmas ornament, perhaps a frog and more.

Sprouts Workshops (assigned)

Story Theater: Campers will use improvisation, role-playing (playing pretend), and theater games to bring nature stories from the page to the stage. (Sprouts: grades K-1)

Nature Art: Campers will create beautiful and useful art projects that incorporate different elements of nature: water, leaves, seeds, animals, and stones. (Sprouts: grades K-1)

Birds, Bees, and Butterflies: Campers will learn about bird, bee, and butterfly feeding and bathing in the desert and creating a variety of gifts for our beloved, winged friends. Some gifts will be for you to take home and some will be used immediately to attract them to our camp environment for watching and photographing. (Sprouts: grades K-1)

Dessert Creations: Campers will make fun desserts that will be enjoyed by our campers and parents on the last day of camp! (Sprouts: grades K-1)
