We started our Fall 2023 house!

Saturday, December 2 | 6:30AM-11AM | 1967 E. Don Carlos, Tempe, Arizona

We have been assigned a house to build. It’s in Tempe on Don Carlos Avenue just down the street from the Tempe Townhouses we worked on a few years ago. This will be a two-story house among five other Habitat homes being built on the same lot. Since we’re starting our build so late in the fall, we won’t do a spring house this year.
This house will be our opportunity to live into Saint Barnabas’ mission statement of ” making disciples” and Habitat’s mission statement of giving Arizona “a hand up”.

Remember that we’ve chosen two build dates specifically for Saint Barnabas. The first will be on December 2 when we should be working on the second-story floor. The other is March 2, 2024 when we should be working on installing doors and trim.

As with all Habitat builds, you are welcome to sign up for any build day that has openings available on the Habitat volunteer website, https://habitatcaz.volunteerhub.com/. There is an event created on the Saint Barnabas website for members to sign up for specific Saint Barnabas workdays.

Think globally and act locally – our Habitat mission dollars stay in Arizona to make Arizona a better place.

Wall Dedication ceremony | Meet the future Habitat homeowners: The Aljazairi Family

Meryssa is an Arizona native and while Ali was born in California, he was raised and has lived much of his life in The Grand Canyon State. Meryssa stays home caring for their young daughter while Ali is a carpenter.
The couple learned about Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona from family members who are current Habitat homeowners. They were motivated to apply for a home with Habitat when they saw “how beautiful and safe it will be to have a home to call ours.” The family recently moved in with Meryssa’s parents, leaving their small apartment due to being a harmful environment with the inconsistent availability of water, strong cigarette odor from their neighbors, a constant presence of ants, and a strange yellow substance dripping from the ceiling. Most importantly, due to safety issues in the neighborhood, the family was unable to take the evening walks they enjoy and love.
Having a deep faith, the Aljazairi family’s new home will provide them with the opportunity to not only take the evening walks they relish but also to play outside and take their daughter to the park.
Additionally, Ali can fulfill his wish of creating a home-based ministry. Their new home will allow them to create a stable life for their daughter, safely expand their family, and provide a forever home for them all.
