Experience the Arts of Yaqui Nation
The Millet House and its artists are honored to announce that a group of very well known individuals will represent the Yaqui nation at a special event. On May 11 and 12 of 2018, in conjunction with our current show, East Meets West, The Millet House will host Yaqui presenters from Mexico and Arizona. They will join Millet House artist Sail’a Guo’I and our current featured artist, Lydia Quiñones, to illuminate the Yaqui experience. Please attend and welcome our guests!
The event was arranged by Sail’a Guo’i, whom many of you know as Abel Ochoa. Abel’s life has been transformed in many ways over the past few years and during the event, he will also show some of the canvases that reflect his growth and transformation. Friday, May 11, 6-10pm Our program begins at 7:30 pm with Mario Luna Romero, a well-known activist from Rio Yaqui. He will give a discussion on the land and water situation in Rio Yaqui. The documentary film “Mover un Rio” will also be shown during the discussion with Mario. Saturday, May 12 Wood Carving Demonstration with David Valenzuela | 11:30am to 1:30 pm Yaqui Deer Songs with Felipe Molina | 2pm to 4pm This is a free two-day event. Donations will be accepted on behalf of the presenters.
