Readers
As Readers, our ministry is the reading of scripture in worship for the whole congregation to hear. We trace our heritage as Readers back to the early church in the first century after Christ’s death, when most people were unable to read and important church texts were shared orally. The process of reading aloud in a modern context provides a way to engage with the scriptures at a different level than by reading them quietly to yourself. Readers at Saint Barnabas may read scripture, lead the Prayers of the People, or lead the praying of the Psalm.
If you’re interested in sharing your voice with our congregation, we invite you to join our team of Readers. We can teach you how to use our sound equipment, how to project your voice, and how to pace yourself to provide the best possible experience for both you and the listening congregation.
