Long before Arizona became a state, baseball was already shaping the region’s social, recreational, and economic life. Even in the days of frontier conflict and roaming outlaws, the game brought people together.

Today, the nonprofit Arizona Baseball Legacy and Experience (ABLE) is honoring that rich history through the creation of the Arizona Baseball Trail—a self-guided tour highlighting landmark sites that trace the game’s evolution. The trail will share stories from early pioneer teams and lively mining leagues to the barnstorming era of Major League Baseball, the birth of the Cactus League, and today’s world-class spring training facilities that fuel a billion-dollar industry.

Mike Phillips, ABLE board president, will share how baseball influenced the growth of both Arizona and Scottsdale and introduce the Trail’s proposed “Starting Nine” landmark locations.
