This past Sunday, June 8, we celebrated Pentecost together at Saint Barnabas, and the spirit of the day was truly alive among us. The color red filled the sanctuary as parishioners of all ages gathered in joyful worship.

The service featured a moving reading from the book of Genesis:  the account of the city of Babel. Rev. Robert spoke about the diversity of languages created by God, intentionally, and God’s desire that we be scattered throughout the land to be a blessing. The day of Pentecost also has something to say about being centered in God, in unity,  rather than imagining enemies or excluding others. And just as in the story of the first Pentecost—voices rose in many different languages as members of the congregation stood to read aloud in our service readings. It was a powerful reminder of the beauty of diversity and the unity of the Spirit.

The Rev. Robert Berra offered a compelling sermon titled Babel Undone, inviting us to reflect on how the Holy Spirit continues to draw us together across every boundary.
