A Day of Worship, Music, and Celebration

On Sunday, May 24, the Saint Barnabas community gathered to celebrate Pentecost, one of the great feast days of the Church and the day we remember the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles. Often called the birthday of the Church, Pentecost marks the beginning of the apostles’ mission to carry the Gospel into the world. Throughout the Episcopal Church, the day is traditionally celebrated with the color red, symbolizing the fire of the Holy Spirit, and our sanctuary was filled with a sea of red as parishioners came together for worship.

The celebration began with a joyful procession into the Sanctuary as children and clergy carried colorful ribbons and banners, recalling the movement and presence of the Spirit. During the service, the congregation heard scripture readings in several languages, reflecting the story in Acts, when people from many nations heard the apostles speaking in their own tongues on the first Pentecost more than 2,000 years ago. The moment served as a reminder that the Church is called to welcome, gather, and share God’s love across every culture and language.

Music filled the morning with offerings from the parish choir, and the Rev. Robyn M. Neville preached on the work of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives, inviting all of us to reflect on the ways God continues to guide, strengthen, and renew the Church today.

Following the service, the congregation gathered outside the Music Center for a parish photo, capturing a joyful moment in the life of our community. We invite you to relive the celebration by exploring the photo gallery below, and thank you to everyone who helped make this Pentecost such a meaningful and memorable day.
