Description

We are seeking an Assistant to the Rector — a trusted and joyful partner in ministry who will support the Rector and clergy team in the daily rhythms of parish life. This person will help us sustain the behind-the-scenes systems that make our shared worship, care, and community possible.
This is a full-time position with medical benefits and pension. It calls for someone who combines organizational excellence with a pastoral heart — someone who understands that faithful administration is itself a ministry of hospitality and care.

Who We Are

We are a large, thriving Episcopal community in the heart of Paradise Valley/Scottsdale, with more than 1,000 members and an annual budget of $1.9 million. Our mission is simple and steadfast: to Make Disciples.
We live that mission through meaningful worship, preaching, teaching, formation, and joyful service to the world. We are an energetic team that loves our parishioners, loves God, and believes that how we work together — with kindness, excellence, and a shared purpose — is itself a witness to Christ’s grace.

Who You Are

  • You are attentive, relational, and organized — someone who finds deep satisfaction in serving others with integrity and care. You are detail-oriented, pastorally sensitive, and able to maintain the highest levels of discretion and confidentiality.
  • You may already have some experience with mainline Catholic or Protestant worship and parish life.
  • You are comfortable asking questions, able to flex when needs change, and committed to producing quality work.
  • You have a sense of humor, value teamwork, and approach your work as an expression of shared ministry.

Above all, you either practice faith yourself or hold a sincere respect for those who do — and you understand that faith-based work carries both sacred responsibility and joy.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to the Rector and clergy staff.
  • Serve as administrative contact for the Senior Warden and program staff.
  • Oversee and maintain the parish database, including mailings and the annual parochial report.
  • Coordinate stewardship administration, including annual pledge campaign and giving records.
  • Provide administrative support for memorial services and weddings.
  • Administer the Memorial Garden (plot and plaque sales, records).
  • Coordinate abuse-prevention training (online courses, background checks).
  • Maintain parish records, including sacramental and membership records.
  • Support other office and ministry functions as needed.

In every task, you will be part of the team that ensures the life of our parish runs smoothly — helping us serve our people well and reflect God’s faithfulness in our shared work.

Benefits

Saint Barnabas offers an attractive and comprehensive benefits package, including: – 100% coverage of monthly premiums for select Health, Dental, Long- and Short-Term Disability, and Life insurance (employee only) – Paid Time Off and Holidays – Pension (Defined Benefit Plan).

To Apply

Please send your resume and a cover letter to: quita@saintbarnabas.org.

In your letter, please go beyond your resume to share your story in 250-300 words: tell us what has shaped you, why you feel drawn to this role, and how your personal values and faith (or respect for faith) align with our team culture and mission.

We look forward to hearing your story and discerning together how your gifts might serve God’s work among us. We will start reviewing applications on November 17, 2025.
