On Sunday we will celebrate our Patron Peacemaker, Barnabas. Born with the name Joseph, he was renamed Barnabas (meaning “son of encouragement”) by the apostles after he sold a field he owned and gave the money for the spreading of the Gospel.

Barnabas demonstrated peacemaking throughout his life. He was generous to the poor. He worked tirelessly to spread the good news of the forgiveness of sin. And he was one of the first followers of Christ to support the ministry of the apostle Paul after his dramatic conversion to the faith. May we be reminded today to seek not our own renown, but the peaceful unity of all creation through acts of generosity, forgiveness, and encouragement.
