Prison Card Ministry
Over the past months, several members of the parish choir have been writing cards to the women incarcerated at the Perryville state prison in Goodyear. We are sharing some of the recipients’ responses to give encouragement to choir members sending cards and to invite parishioners to join us in this ministry.
“Having had no contact with anyone from the outside world for … years, I sometimes feel like I’m slowly disappearing, but your card and beautiful words of encouragement appeared as if from any old friend. So thank you for the time to write a total stranger….”
“I wanted to send a heartfelt thank you to your wonderful prison ministry. You have brought light many times into dark places.”
“Your warm blessings do me well in a world where I feel I scarcely exist & certainly don’t matter to the rest of this country. It’s good to know there are a few kindhearted, loving people who still consider us human & worthy of a simple kind gesture. Thank you.”
“To all of thoughs (sic) that take the time to send warm wish and happy thoughts to us girls. It means so much to us that are having hard time, with vary (sic) little happy moment while we’re away from are (sic) familys.”
“I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of you for the birthday cards. It brought a smile to my face. So many of us get forgotten in here by our loved ones.”
“You guys sure do know how to make someone feel so special & loved!”
If you would like to participate in this mission, just contact either of us. Thank you! It’s really a good feeling to be involved in doing something so positive these days.
