Thursday Night Men’s Discipleship

The Saint Barnabas Men’s Group is a welcoming space for men to grow in faith, build friendships, and connect more deeply with the parish community. Our goal is to foster a strong network of men (21 and older) who support one another in areas of shared interest—such as work-life balance, career development, and lifelong learning—while also encouraging one another’s spiritual growth for the sake of ourselves, our families, and the people who enrich our lives.

All men age 21 and older are invited—whether you’re a parishioner, a friend, a neighbor, a co-worker, or a relative. We value the energy, wisdom, talents, and experiences each person brings. You don’t have to be a member of Saint Barnabas to join us. Everyone is welcome.

Intentional discipleship through thought, word, and deed.

This group is designed by imperfect men for imperfect men who are committed to fostering their growth and the growth of the community. They will use Jesus’ blueprint for discipleship, as laid out in Matthew 5-7, to take purposeful action and engage in spiritual contemplation.

We meet thrice monthly:

  1. Twice to study and share fellowship
    1. Fellowship, group Learning, self reflection, small group sessions
    2. Meet Thursday’s of the month at Saint Barnabas (~1.5 hours)

  1. Once to take action and share fellowship
    1. Service projects for the church and parishioners in need
    2. Meet one Saturday of each month (~1-2 hours)

ChiRho (XP) Origins

The Chi Rho is a Christian symbol for “Christ” written by superimposing the two Greek letters “Chi (X)” and “Rho (P)” which are the first two letters in Greek of the name of “Christ.”

The first public use of the Chi Rho symbol was on the labarum, the shield of Constantine’s warriors in the Battle of Milvian Bridge on October 28, 312 AD. Emperor Constantine (reigned 306-337) and his troops saw a miraculous sign in the sky the day before the battle.

Emperor Constantine won the Battle of Milvian Bridge and believed he won because of the symbol of Christ, the Chi Rho, upon the shields of his men. Several months later, Constantine in the Edict of Milan declared Christianity legal in the Roman Empire. The almost three hundred years of Imperial Persecution against Christians were over.

Constantine would host the first council of Niceae, ultimately unifying the different church belief systems of Christian sects of the time through the Apostles Creed and a unified Canon.
