Saint Barnabas/Resurrection Lutheran Mexico Medical Mission

We are excited to return to our medical mission ministry in Ensenada, Mexico. Our team will be made up of parishioners, Mayo Clinic and other medical providers and long term mission workers. We will establish our full clinic including nursing triage, medical providers, pharmacy, optometry, dental, and children’s programming for all of our patients. We also provide much needed items from your donations to the mission. This special trip allows the team to provide medical assistance and especially the overarching sense of love and respect for each patient entering our clinic.

Donations Needed:

  • Children’s toothpaste and toothbrushes
  • Large toothpaste
  • Large bars of soap
  • Hats (new & gently used)
  • Shoes (new & gently used)
  • Glasses (prescription, readers, sunglasses)
  • NEW REQUEST: T-shirts (all sizes, youth and adult)

Please drop your donation off at the church office or bring them on Sundays. There are boxes for donations at the Welcome Table in front of the church.

It’s a new day! Though covid-cautions prevented our medical mission journey in the summer of 2021, we were incredibly blessed to join with a neighboring church and fund a day long medical mission effort serving the villages we traditionally serve. Our host Pastor and the local government provided the leadership. Doctors, nurses and volunteers were “us” – the hands and feet to serve.
Thanks to the generosity of Saint Barnabas, we were able to send the funds to provide medications, medical supplies, foodstuffs, setup, facility and compensation. Our team crafted a photo card for each patient that expressed how very much we have missed being with them — and reminded each person of how very much God loves them and how He is always near. These cards were affixed to the handle of 300 cloth bags that were shipped along with Bibles and multiple toiletry items and gifts to be placed inside each bag. These family blessing bags were given to each patient at the close of their medical visit. PPE and children’s supplies to keep them busy at the event were also provided.
The attendance exceeded expectations and over 400 patients received medical and dental care on their mini-mission day!
The photos below serve as a sweet expression of the blessing of serving as well as the blessing of being served. Pastor Ruben heard many stories of thanks from the professionals serving that day — they were full of joy after giving of themselves in this way!
Thank you Saint Barnabas for making this mission effort a 2021 reality!
Christ has no body but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
Compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,
Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes, you are his body.
Christ has no body now but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
compassion on this world.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours. — St. Teresa of Ávila

During the summer of 2020, our annual Mexico Medical Mission was met with challenges. COVID-19 meant that we were unable to send our group of 50 missionaries to Ensenada, Mexico to provide life sustaining medical support and other basic necessities to the people of the region. Our leadership team was heartbroken. Even in the midst of adversity, we were able to provide assistance through funding from Saint Barnabas. Click here to read the details.

Thank you to our 50 volunteers who joined us on the Mexico Medical Mission trip this year! Over 1,500 patients are seen in just four short days and for many, it’s their only medical care all year. We are so grateful for all of the donations made as well that allowed us to serve over 1,500 people in the impoverished areas of Ensenada, Mexico. In addition to providing medical care, because of your generous donations, we were able to give out:

• 1,100 bars of soap
• 541 tubes of toothpaste
• 1,890 toothbrushes
• 100 reading glasses
• 190 prescription glasses
• 250 sunglasses

Our Mexico Medical Mission Trip for 2020 has been canceled due to COVID-19.

Please read the following letter from our Mexico Medical Missions Team:

Dearest Mexico Medical Team and Supporters,

With heavy hearts and a sense of responsibility, the Saint Barnabas | MayoClinic | ResurrectionLutheran & Friends Mexico Medical Mission has decided to cancel this year’s trip, scheduled for July 12-17 in Ensenada.

The mission’s core team met last night by teleconference and made this decision, knowing that many plans and contracts need to be decided on now and many risks and border issues remain so unknown for our time of travel.

On the one hand, this was a difficult decision because of the value this trip brings to our patients and Mexico family…and us. But we are also fully aware of the risks to health and safety such a trip would present, despite the best efforts of everyone to create a clean environment. There are just too many variables to ensure your complete safety.

We are deeply sad. To miss the opportunity to serve our family/community at a time of such heightened need is so very difficult to imagine. And so, we will press on with creative thoughts and pursue a plan of specific, strategic efforts we can make to intersect with our communities in Ensenada this summer. We will seek the counsel of Pastor Ruben and Alberto Sandoval and keep you posted as key opportunities avail themselves. We WILL insert your smiles and messages of Christ’s love and our respect to each community in a unique and, hopefully, meaningful way this summer.

Thank you for your commitment to this near-25 year endeavor — for already filling the bus with your 2020 enthusiasm and support! From those just joining us this year to those “retired” from being physically present and girding us with your prayers and cheers…no hay palabras a decir nuestro gracias…there are no words to express our thanks.

Stay tuned and be well.

Privileged to be His hands, joined with yours,

Casey and Cindy

Let us join together in this prayer of Clement of Rome: We ask you, Master, be our helper and defender. Rescue those of our number in distress; raise up the fallen; assist the needy; heal the sick; turn back those of your people who stray; feed the hungry; release our captives; revive the weak; encourage those who lose heart. Let all the nations realize that you are the only God, that Jesus Christ is your Son, and that we are your people and the sheep of your pasture. Amen.
