It’s back! Our Backpack Blessing returns to in-person worship.

Sunday, August 7 at the 10:15 am service in the Sanctuary

Students and teachers of ALL ages are invited to bring backpacks, bags, and briefcases to church to be blessed with a special liturgy during worship. Join us for a celebration of learning and teaching! All are welcome.

This year we will also be blessing more than 100 backpacks that will soon make their way to children in Ensenada, Mexico. Our Mexico Medical Mission team has filled the backpacks with supplies.

In previous years, we have passed out bag or luggage tags for our learners to place on the outside of their backpacks. This year we’ll be sharing a reusable lunch bag with each student. They can use this bag printed with our Boundless presence logo and website daily as they care for God’s creation. Its intention is to remind the students that their church has blessed the schoolyear. As they pull their sandwich out of the Saint Barnabas bag again and again, may they be encouraged that their church family supports them and God’s blessing is with them day after day.

Infant and toddler nursery will be available in The Children’s Center. For Saint Barnabas family registration, click here.

God of Wisdom, as we begin another school year I pause to ask for your blessing on all aspects of my life. I give you thanks for my school, my teachers, and my friends. I am grateful for pencils, crayons, notebooks, and for your gift of learning. Bless us all with curiosity, understanding, and respect. And bless my teachers, who support and encourage me and my friends. In this time of new beginnings, I ask your blessing on all of us learning how to learn online and outside our usual classrooms, and a blessing on the many devices we use to connect with our neighbors in a changing world. All this I ask in the name of Jesus, who as a child in the temple showed his longing to learn about you, and as an adult taught by story and example your great love for us. Amen.
